Underground parking

A question has been asked about the feasibility of parking.

"Can you clear up the underground parking for me. I have been told that it is impossible to build (due to the sand and being too close to the water) why would they say they can do it if they can't?"

I need to parse this question down somewhat. First, nobody is going to forward a physically impossible plan. Difficult perhaps, impractical maybe, but not impossible.

I've asked around and it's sound from an engineering perspective, but pumps would need to be running constantly. It's a valid concern because if underground parking is not feasible, 100 parking spots will be taken from the other side of Erie Road. We won't know anything about it until the detailed engineering is done -- and that's not required to be completed for the current zoning application.

Hopefully, someone with some expertise in this area will have something to say.

  1. I asked the town engineer Ron Tripp about this last night. He confirmed that it is possible but that it will have to be "de-watered". He also said that it is expensive but couldn't comment about the economic feasibility because it's not his bailiwick.
