The site plan

This is the site drawing for the proposed development. Below it is an aerial photo from a 2005 report with the property boundaries roughly shown.

  1. Here's what I think about Bay Beach.

The most important goal is to reduce the cost of providing a public beach park. We are already into Bay Beach for $2.5-million, and if we did nothing, we would be paying probably $50,000 a year to run it.

Personally, I'm upset that so much recreation money is spent on part-time facilities. The arenas are mainly winter facilities. The soccer fields are fair weather summer facilities, as are splash pads, playgrounds and the soon-to-be skatepark.

Something would have to be done about the dance hall, but it would seem to me, that's where the toads hibernate. If I was a toad that liked to sleep in soft sand, that's where I'd be if I could get in there.

The Lobster House . . . what to do, what to do. The Town estimates it would cost $250,000 to bring it up to a leaseable condition and leaseholder improvements would probably be another $250,000.

    Washrooms . . . ka-ching. Concession stand . . . ka-ching, ka-ching. Other facilities . . . ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching.

Minimum cost $1 million. Plus additional maintenance costs.

That's the foundation on which I base everything. Is this project the solution? I don't know. There are pros and cons. I'll list them later, or someone else can provide a list.

  2. Can you clear up the underground parking for me. I have b een told that it is impossible to build (due to the sand and being too close to the water)why would they say they can do it if they can't?

  3. I would think one only has to look at the City of Toronto or any city by water for that matter, where the put in underground facilities that are well below water level. The World Trade Center had six and a half storys under the river level. The other thing is they build tunnels under water ways that do not leak, The Chunnel for one.

This is just some of the information that those in the anti camp are using to confuse people and get them on their side to go against the proposal

  4. Oh yea the sand. Well how deep is the bed rock in that area? Take a look by waterfront park and Point Abino to find your answer.

  5. This debate will go along more smoothly if we don't make conclusions about the motives about questions.

  6. What about the tax revenue lost that George Rebstock paid yearly, to the tax base.As a public park,we stopped collecting from it.Add that to the cost please!

  7. What about this "new" group The Fort Erie Waterfront Preservation Association? Are they against every development proposal on our shores? Can't they understand that if you want to encourage growth you enhance your greatest assets. All ofFort Erie is surrounded by water, should we just keep it private and/or underdeveloped.Maybe if we all become toads, right!lol

  8. I think you answered your own question about the Fort Erie Waterfront Association. If we keep it all natural they will be happy.

  9. Right they will be happy and broke too! Give me another reason to like this development in CB.More jobs created by more year around residents. No brainer for most of us, Eh!

  10. The lost taxes when the Town bought it is a significant amount.

  11. What about the businesses that have been closed for years now.How long can they wait or pay taxes without any activity down there on Derby Road. How much money has been spent to keep these buildings.Add that to the arguement for change.

  12. Crystal Beach is still stuck in a moment.Too many of us still look back at once was a summer retreat with afew amusements. Its gone!Get over the fact that this area is for summer use only, please.I moved here to retire and welcome more year around residents. What's the worst thin g that might happen?A grocery store might open or even just another business.Build this condo please I need more services!

  13. I don't know if this plan will improve the nature of life here, but I do know that the present situation isn't helping either.I could possibly live with a condo near the beach,an improved view of our waterfront and possible revival of a town desparate for change. It is something I could get used to,something new.I bet the condo dwellers that occupied that present site ate somewhere or shopped somewhere in town.If it wasn't winterized, I bet they left before their water was shut off too.Again,I could live with this plan.I've lived with worse for about 18 years, much worse.

  14. That so called new group, Fort Erie Waterfront Preservation Association is formed by people against change and free enterprise.Who in Fort Erie wants more of the same, same old nothing?I'd like some new stores opening soon too, instead of driving out of town everytime I need something nice. How about a new plaza someday too.Have you seen the County Fair Mall lately? Pityful! Walmart is OK if you are looking for disposable clothing and other cheesy things.I want a real town filled with people and real stores! Am I being greedy? Should I start a group called Fort Erie Revitaliztion Association? I bet I could get a lawyer who once failed as a politician to help, but I'll just wait on The Molinaro Group to start building our town, one project at a time.So beachers, take one for the team! I'm sure we can let you shop in our new plazas too,we're not greedy!

  15. I can't wait for that new "beachside restaurant"to open soon! Hopefully they will offer Fresh perch,Fresh pickerel and Fresh smelt, native to Lake Erie.Isn't that what a beach resort town suppose to be like? Maybe they will call it "Rebstock's on the Beach",just like Freelands' at the Holiday Inn.Maybe some of the other "competition" will stop serving wings and more fryer crap? Eh!! just a thought.....

  16. How about cocktails and some live jazz with your perch? Not a bad idea.I.m starting to like it.
